How are Surinamese fisheries impacted by climate change?
Climate Change has an impact on fish and their habitat worldwide. In Suriname various aspects such as overfishing and illegality threatens the fishing industry, but the impact of climate change is difficult to determine. Due to lack of research there is no data to proof the impact of climate change on fisheries. The Suriname Seafood Association has been requesting the government to use the fishing license fees to do research, but nothing has happened yet. Meanwhile fishermen face the consequences of climate change every day.
