Solar energy championed by Puerto Rico’s communities
Puerto Rico is supposed to be powered by 100% renewable energy by 2050, but the archipelago is miles away from that goal. However, solar energy is being pushed by private citizens, community organizations like Casa Pueblo and the Hydroelectric Mountain Cooperative, and–seemingly–the United States Department of Energy. There’s still a long road ahead for Puerto Rico to achieve climate justice for its citizens by becoming powered by renewables.
